A story that this writer heard during my growing up years was how Carrie Amanda shot a hole in the floor. Carrie Amanda was my maternal grandmother. Carrie used the name "Amanda" (She was called "Mandy" by friends) and all her grandchildren called her "Little Grandma".

During one of the times that Amanda's husband Robert was away and had left his family behind one of the daughters (no one seems sure which one of the three daughters it was) woke during the night to discover a man breaking into the house through a window. Whoever it was alerted Carrie Amanda and since they were alone in the house Carrie Amanda grabbed her husband's shotgun. She didn't want to kill anyone so she pointed the shotgun toward the floor and fired. Thus when Grandpa Boren came home from his trip there was a hole in the floor.
