BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Helen Harmison, 85, who was raised and educated in Great Falls, died of natural causes Sunday at a nursing home in Bellingham, Wash.
Graveside services and burial took place Friday in Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. A memorial service is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Bellingham.
She is survived by daughters Mary Alice Harmison of Falls Church, Va., Nancy Cebula and husband Sam of Kenosha, Wis., and Bette Ann Schwede and husband Walter of Ferndale, Wash; and nine grandchildren.
Helen was born June 1, 1918, in Butte, Mont., to Earl and Ida Buker (Mueller). She was raised and educated in Great Falls and later lived in Greencastle, Ind., and Grosse Point, Mich.
Helen was a musician and an extraordinary music teacher. She nurtured many children and touched many lives, whether at school or in church involvement. An avid reader, Helen was dedicated to whatever endeavor she started, whether it was playing carillon at church, obtaining a silver life master in duplicate bridge, or reading books to make tapes for blind people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Harmison Jr; and her son, Charles B. Harmison.
