Chapman and Elizabeth Chapman, was born in Cumberland Co., Illinois, June 28, 1867. He departed this life at his home in Litchfield, Neb., January 21, 1941 at the ageof 78 years, 6 months and 23 days. He spent his early life in the state of his birth, coming to Sherman Co., Neb, with an uncle at the age of 20 years. Therest of his life has been spent in this vicinity. He was married May 28,100 to Roxie Ethel Pratt. To this union were born 3 children; Blanche Strickland of Galveston, Texas, Stanley of Bishop, California, and Hazel Empfield of Callaway, Neb. There are 7 grand children living. Mr. Chapman was an active, energetic man engaged in farming until 4 years ago, when failing health compelled him to retire from active labor. He sold his farm and moved to Litchfield wherehe has resided since. He was a true and loving husband, a tender and loving father, a good friends and neighbor, and a worthy citizen. He leaves to morn his passing, his beloved wife, son, and two daughters and grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. J.H. Kirkling of Lerna, Illinois. Two grandsons, two brothers and five sisters have preceeded him in death. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Litchfield Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Giles of Pleasanton. Miss Janice Farley and Mrs. B.B.Grice sang, 'No Disappointment in Heaven,' 'Does Jesus Care', and the 'Gate Ajar', with Mrs. C. Brundigeat the piano. Interment was in the Litchfield cemetery. The pall bearers wereMessrs. H.I. Lang, G.W. Lang, Wm. Garnett, John Howard, Niels Nielsen and J.H. Kisling.
