JACKSON BIRDSALL CONOVER 1925 - 2008 Passed away on January 15, 2008 in San Mateo at the age of 82. Born February 16, 1925, Jack resided and was educated in Red Bank, NJ, enlisting in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday. After attending basic training and diesel engine school he served with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces, participating in five invasions in the Central Pacific, South Pacific, and Philippines from 1943 to 1945. He then lived in St. Petersburg, FL, until 1951 when he relocated to the Bay Area. He joined Bechtel Power Corporation and was employed for 36 years as an instrumentation designer and engineer on power plants, retiring in 1987. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rose Marie, residing for many years in San Mateo. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, and senior center activities. H was active with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Hillsdale United Methodist Church, Bechtel retirees, and Sons-in-Retirement Branch 118. Jack is also survived by his four sons, Alan (Karen), Brian (Luanne), Mark (Tammy), and Scott (Julie), 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Joan McKay, of Bonita Springs, FL, and Lois Scarbrough, of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marjorie Conover, brother, Bill Conover, and grandson, Brandon Dewey. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connel's Funeral Home, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA. Inurnment will be at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org.
