WILLIAM R. CONOVER JR., 89, of JACKSON, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, at his residence. Mr. Conover was born in Newark and resided in Toms River before settling in Jackson five months ago. Mr. Conover was a fireman with The City of Newark for 30 years, retiring in 1979. Mr. Conover proudly served his country in Pearl Harbor with the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Conover was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, and St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson.
Mr. Conover was predeceased by his parents, William R. Conover Sr. and Virginia Conover. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie H. Conover; his sons, and William R. Conover III of Jackson and the Vailsburg section of Newark, and Robert P. Conover of Hackettstown and the Vailsburg section of Newark; his daughter, Nancy A. Conover Connelly of South Orange; his grandchildren, William R. Conover, Michael S. Conover, Robert Alderete, Christine A. Conover, Paige S. Leach, David T. Conover, Eric S. Hoopes, John R. Iantosca, Shannon C. Conover, Robert D. Iantosca, Brian W. Conover, Nicole M. Iantosca, Kelly M. Conover, Daniel M. Iantosca, and Megan M. Conover; and his great-grandchildren, William, Michael, Zachary, Samuel, Joseph, Giselle, Kodi, Anthony, and Kaylee.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. Interment with military honors will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown.
