Joseph Couwenhoven was also known as Joost Covenhoven. He was baptized on 16. Sep. 1739 at New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He was the son of
Peter Couwenhoven and
Elizabeth DeBevoise. Joseph Couwenhoven married
Maria Field, daughter of
John Field and
Elizabeth Fisher, on 22. Dec. 1763.
Joseph Couwenhoven left a will on 24. Dec. 1800 at Franklin Twp., Somerset County, New Jersey.
In his will, dated Dec 24, 1800, Joseph Covenhoven of Franklin Twp, Somerset County, mentione his sons John (eldest), Joseph, Garret, Jeremia (youngest); and his daughters Elizabeth, Elsie, Mary, and Ellen. The executor was his son John, and the witnesses were Robert Boggs, Sarah Thompson, and Ann Dunham.
He wrote a codicil on 14. Oct. 1811; he revoked some clauses of the preceeding will due to the fact that his son Garret was then dead. The witnesses were William P. Deare, Benjamin Runyon, and Robert Boggs. He died on 6. Apr. 1814 at Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey, at age 74. He was buried c 7. Apr. 1814 at Wells Farm, North Brook, New Jersey. His estate was proved on 23. May. 1814.
