ALONZO CARL CRAIN
Alonzo Carl Crain was born at Barnard, Nodaway Co; Missouri July 27, 1882, and died at his home near Ripley, Oklahoma, March 8, 1927. Had he lived till next June he would have been 45 years old.
Mr. Crain moved to Oklahoma with his parents at 13 years of age. He has lived in and near Ripley since that time. For a number of years he was part owner of the Ripley Trading Co's store. The rest of the time was spent in farming. He was living on his farm about 3 miles southeast of Ripley at the time of his death.
For over a year Mr. Crain has been ill with cancer of the stomach. The character of the disease was such that, in spite of the best medical attention that could be secured, the cancer slowly but surely progressed to the final and fatal stage. For some time death was inevitable.
Mr. Crain leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Jessie June Crain; daughter, Marcella Crain; his mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crain and a brother Wiley O. Crain.
The whole Ripley community is grieved at Mr. Crain's untimely death. Everybody held him in the highest esteem because of his habits of honesty, geniality, industry and loyalty to home and family and community. He made friends readily because he acted fairly and squarely with others. He measured up to the highest standards of real manhood and ideal citizenship. His death was a very distinct loss to this community.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Ripley by Rev. D. W. Hobbs and interment made in the Stillwater cemetery.
