Dorothy L. Hinen, 90, a former resident of South Whitley, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City where she had been a resident since July 30, 2000.
Born on Nov. 19, 1913 in Greentown, a daughter of Walter P. and Emma E. (Thompson) Roe, her formative years were spent in Howard County. Her education was completed at Sharpsville High School.
On May 23, 1932 she married Otha A. Abbett and they made their home in Johnson County and later in Arizona. Mr. Abbett preceded her in death.
From 1955 until 1959 she was employed at RCA Victor in Indianapolis.
In November 1966 she married Clarence S. Hinen. They made their home in Roanoke and later Columbia City. In 1978 they moved to South Whitley. Mr. Hinen died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Reba J. Christian of South Whitley; three sons, Otha "Jim" (Patsy) Abbett of Naples, Fla; Phillip Abbett of Pierceton and Nik (Etta) Abbett of Huntington; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, William J. Abbett and Ken M. Abbett; four brothers, Gerald, Duane, Clare and Arthur Roe; and two sisters, Bona Miller and Betty Burdette.
The funeral service is at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel in South Whitley with visitation two hours prior. Burial is at a later date at South Whitley Cemetery.
