STEVENSON—Virgie Crownover Hughes, 92, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga.
She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She attended various congregations including Anderson, Midway and most recently Edgefield. She has also written articles for the Winchester Chronicle and the North Jackson Progress in Stevenson. She was a writer of poetry and traveled throughout the United States. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Boyd Hughes Sr; parents, Jonathan Walker and Ada Lehr Crownover; children, Paul Boyd Hughes Jr., Nancy Hughes Andes, Elizabeth Hughes; grandchild, Velma Stevens; brother, Clyde Crownover.
She is survived by children, Juanita Hughes, of Chattanooga, Kenneth (Elaine) Hughes, of Winchester, Tenn., Bobby Hughes, of Stevenson, Emma Hughes (Robert) Aycock, of Birmingham, Ala., Douglas (Lynne) Hughes, of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Bradford, of Nashville, Etta Hicks, of Dallas, Texas, Ann Turner, of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Mary Mobbs, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Brother Frank Crownover.
Interment will be at Crownover Cemetry in Anderson, Tenn.
Visitation will be today 6-9 p.m. CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson.
