Private memorial services are planned for John "Jay" DeMott of McMinnville, who died Dec. 27, 2003, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. He was 83.
He was born April 19,1920, in Kearney, N.J., where he was raised and educated. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio.
Mr. DeMott served in the Army Air Forces during World War II, then moved into industrial relations, spending many years with the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich.
He and Frances Anita Smith married Nov. 8, 1947. His work took him for long periods to England and France, where he and his wife enjoyed themselves greatly. In their years together, they made many lifelong friends, his family said.
Mrs. DeMott preceded him in death May 2, 2003.
Survivors include four sons, John DeMott of Lake Oswego, Andrew DeMott of Poulsbo, Wash., Thomas DeMott of Albuquerque, N.M. and Charles DeMott of Santa Fe, N.M.
Arrangements were by Restlawn Funeral Home, Salem.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillside Heritage Fund in the memory of Jay DeMott in care of Hillside Retirement Community, 300 N.W. Hillside Parkway, McMinnville, OR 97128, attn. Jim Frelka. Alternatively, contributions may be made to any local charity.
