It is said the building which stood thereon was allowed to go to decay, when this body erected its place of worship in Middletown, in 1835. 'Among the stones are: 'John C. Van Mater, born Jan. 30, 1793l died Sept. 8, 1867. 'Lucy, his wife, died, Jan 23, 1861, aged 63, 3, 0.' Note: I found this church yard in the 1980's but was unable to locate these stones. Elmer Hendrickson Geran (October 24, 1875, Matawan, New Jersey - January 12, 1954, Morganville) was an American Democratic Party politician who represented New Jersey's 3rd congressional district from 1925-1927.

Geran was born in Matawan, New Jersey on October 24, 1875, where he attended the public schools and Glenwood Military Academy. He graduated from Peddie Institute in Hightstown, New Jersey in 1895, from Princeton University in 1899, and from New York Law School in 1901. He was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1901 and commenced practice in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1911 and 1912, and a member of the New Jersey State Water Supply Commission from 1912 to 1915. Geran was assistant prosecutor of the pleas of Monmouth County from 1915-1917, and was again a member of the Assembly in 1916 and 1917 and served as minority leader. He served as sheriff of Monmouth County from 1917 to 1920. He was appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey by President Woodrow Wilson in 1920, resigning in 1921 to resume the practice of law in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Geran was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress from March 4, 1923-March 3, 1925, and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress.

After leaving Congress, Geran resumed the practice of his profession until September 22, 1927. In 1927, he became associated with the New Jersey Gravel & Sand Co. at Farmington, and was serving as vice president and treasurer at time of death. He died in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, New Jersey on January 12, 1954, and was interred in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent, New Jersey.



GERAN, Elmer Hendrickson, a Representative from New Jersey; born in Matawan, Monmouth County, N.J., October 24, 1875; attended the public schools and Glenwood Military Academy; was graduated from Peddie Institute, Hightstown, N.J., in 1895, from Princeton University in 1899, and from New York Law School in 1901; was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1901 and commenced practice in Jersey City, N.J; member of the State house of assembly in 1911 and 1912; member of the New Jersey State Water Supply Commission 1912-1915; assistant prosecutor of the pleas of Monmouth County 1915-1917; again a member of the State house of assembly in 1916 and 1917 and served as minority leader; sheriff of Monmouth County 1917-1920; appointed United States district attorney for New Jersey by President Wilson in 1920; resigned in 1921 and resumed the practice of law in Asbury Park, N.J; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1923-March 3, 1925); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress; resumed the practice of his profession until September 22, 1927; in 1927 became associated with the New Jersey Gravel & Sand Co. at Farmington, and was serving as vice president and treasurer at time of death; died in Marlboro Township, Morganville, N.J., January 12, 1954; interment in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent, N.J.
