FRANKFORT -- Simon Albert Gillum, 84, of 809 S. First St., died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at Clinton House Convalescent Center.
Born Feb. 18, 1922, in Stanton County, Kan., he was the son of the late Morris Leland and Bertha Thrush Gillum, and a graduate of a Bible college in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He married Lois Aleta Sheldon on Dec. 23, 1943, and she survives.
Mr. Gillum had been a security guard at National Homes in Lafayette for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He also was a church pastor for seven years in Kansas and taught three years at the former Pilgrim Holiness College in Frankfort.
He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and taught Sunday school for several years.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Yvonn Hale of Frankfort, Alice Wilson (husband: Walter) of Muncie and Evelyn Whipple of West Lafayette; a son, Vernon Gillum (wife: Rebecca) of Frankfort; and two sisters, Alice Kephart of Florida and Eva Jellison of Oregon.
Calling 4-8 p.m. Monday at Genda Funeral Home, Frankfort. Service 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at First Wesleyan Church, Pastor Micah Hudson and the Rev. Ernest Batman officiating. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery. Surviving are 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 brothers. Memorials: Gideon's.
