John Knapp was an officer in the French and Indian War. In 1758. He died in 1758 at aboard a ship on, Lake Erie. He was buried at at sea, Lake Erie.

     Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. was born in 1668 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was the son of Caleb Knapp and Hannah Smith. Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. married Hannah Bushnell, daughter of Francis Bushnell and Hannah Seamer, circa 1696. Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. resided at at Danbury, Farifield County, Connecticut, before 1700; He probably moved to Danbury as early as 1685 as he was among the first eight families that settled there. He settled on the South side of South St., at the foot of Main St. The Old Episcopal grave yard is on the opposite side f the same street toward Betherl. The Old Episcopal Chruch stood on the corner between the grave yard and Main St. In it were stored supplis for the Contiental Army during the Revolutionary War. which was the cause of the British marching to Danbury to destroy these supplies.

The Episcopal Church, being the Church of England, was not burned. The house that stood on the original house lot of Lt. Samuel Kanp wa not burned by the British because Daniel Knap, son of Joshua Knap was there sick with smallpox which freightened the soldiers away. The house was still standing in 1941 and is the second house est of the old nmile stone which was erected by Mayor Taylor, in front of the tavern which he builet in 1777 after the Britsh burned Danbury.

The old Knap house at 140 South St., at the foot of Main St., Danbury, was built before the Revolution by Deacon Joshua Knap. He was a weaver. He was an Ensign in the Train Band. The CT General Assembly held in New Haven confirmed him. In October 1713. He was promoted to Lieut. by the General Assembly held at Hartford. In May 1716. He was a Deputy to the General Assembly held at Hartford on 11 May 1716. He was a Representatvie in the Assembly between 1721 and 1722. He married Phoebe Lockwood before 18 June 1726. Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. died in 1739 at Danbury, Farifield County, Connecticut. The Inventory of Lt. Samuel Knapp Sr. was taken give the inventory of the Estate of Lt. Samuel Knap, of Danbury. John Knap being Administrator. On 4 April 1740.

The Inventory of Caleb Knapp was taken was taken by William Newman an Jonathan Sellick. The inventory amounted to 170 ponds, 16 shillings and 4 pence on 4 March 1774/75.
