Daniel Hoopes was baptized on 27 May 1672 at Skelton-in-Cleveland, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of
Joshua Hoopes and
Ann (Unknown). Daniel Hoopes immigrated in 1683 to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He resided at at Westtown Twp., Chester County, Pennsylvania, circa 1696. He married
Jane Worrilaw, daughter of
Thomas Worrilow and
Grace Joan Perkes, on 10 December 1696 at home of John Bowater, Middletown Twp., Chester County now Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Hoopes was represented Chester County in the Assembly of Pennsylvania between 1708 and 1709. He built a house not far from West Chester, Pennsylvania, near Tanquey in Chester County on 200 acres. He purchased and additional 630 acres from Roger Adams and wife in 1728. He left a will on 20 April 1746 at Westtown, Chester County, Pennsylvania,
I, Daniel Hoopes of Westtown in the County of Chester in the Province of Pennsylvania, yoeman being indisposed in body but of sound disposing mind and memory, prayed be the Lord for the same, considering that it is appointed for all men once to dye, do make my last will and testament in manner and form following that it is to say first and chiefly I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named, and as for what worldly estate money and effects I have undisposed of I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows (viz) I order that my just debts and funeral charges be first paid and discharged by my escecutors, Item I give and bequeath to my oldest son Joshua Hoopes my negro named Tom, and also my still with the appurtenances and my clock and my walnut desk and xloaths trees, he my said Joshua paying to my daughter Mary the sum of ten pounds current money of the Province within three monts next after my decease with which payment I do charge the same premises. Item I give and bequeath to my son Daniel Hoopes my large panel oak chest and one set of silver coat buttons and five shillings in money. Item I give and bequeath to my son John Hoppes the sum of five shillings current money of this Province. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Abraham Hoopes the sum of five shillings current money aforesaid, and my cane. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Hoopes the sum of five shillings current money af. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Stephen Hoopes one set of silver coat buttons and also all the residue and raminder of money due to me upon bonds and bills or otherwise after my debts, funeral expenses and legacies in this my will specified or mentioned and to be mentioned are all paid. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Nathan Hoopes the sum of five pounds current money aforesaid and my riding horse, saddle and bridle. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Hall the sum of fifty shillings current aforesaid. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane Ashbridge the sum of five shillings aforesaid. Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Christian Hoopes all my beds, bedding, bedsteads and funiture thereof and all my pewter of every sort and my great looking glass and also my earhenware. Item, I nominate my sons-in-law George Ashbridge and Phillip Yarnall and my friend Thomas Smedley to be my executors of this my last will and testament. AND lastly I do hereby revoke, disannul and declare utterly void all other and former wills and testaments by me made either in word or writing and declare this only to be my last will and testament.
