He resided at at Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts, before 1647. He was Governor of Martha's Vinyard between 1671 and 1682. He died on 25 March 1682 at Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts, at age 88.
